Cuisine American
- 2 pounds lean ground beef or mixed ground meat, such as beef and pork
- 1 envelope of Lipton Onion Soup Mix reserve 2 tablespoons for topping
- 1 cup bread crumbs plain or seasoned
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Topping:
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a meatloaf pan or baking sheet with foil.
In a large bowl, mix ground meat, soup mix (reserve 2 tbsp), bread crumbs, eggs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until just combined.
Shape into a loaf and place in pan. In a small bowl, mix topping ingredients and spread over meatloaf. Sprinkle reserved soup mix on top.
Bake 55–65 minutes, or until a meat thermometer reads 160°F (71°C). Rest 10 minutes before slicing. Store leftovers wrapped or in an airtight container.
-
For more moisture and flavor, you can add ¼ cup finely diced onion or bell pepper to the meatloaf mixture.
-
Baking the meatloaf free-form on a baking sheet instead of in a loaf pan gives you crispier edges.
-
To freeze uncooked: shape the loaf, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and store in a freezer bag. Thaw overnight before baking.
-
Using a meat thermometer is the best way to ensure the perfect doneness every time.
